Hey guys, I have never seen in any threads this explicitly spelled out for Project Fi users so I'm just doing a quick writeup, of my experiences with Fi on the Nexus 5X running CM13.
In order to get Project Fi to work I needed the following from OpenGApps (I used Aroma package to do this)
Apps:
Project Fi - Needed to register onto Fi Network - Also needed for the US Cellular update of your SIM
Hangouts - Needed for WiFi Calling + SMS over Wifi to Work (You can't just install it from App store, it needs to be the system package)
Google Dialer (and Dialer Framework) - Needed for Proper Spring / T-mobile / US Cellular Roaming
(so.. you don't have to replace your dialer to use Fi, but if you don't you end up locked into T-Mobile, and when you try to roam over to sprint network, you get a service crash from DMService package. This package is responsible for setting up your data network on the sprint networks) (Roaming to US Cellular seems to work fine though)
Google Connectivity Services - I have this installed but its not required, although Fi encourages its use.
(it does the auto connect to open WiFi networks and establish an VPN to google thing...)
Google Messenger - As far as I can tell you don't need to install this, I installed it anyway, but its not required for Wifi SMS or anything else.
Its that simple...
I'm curious to hear if others on Fi have had similar experiences to mine, please comment below!
