Waze and Spotify Announce Integration to Allow Seamless Music Playback While Navigating

Waze official blog has posted about an interesting integration between Waze and Spotify. The blog describes the new features the two companies have built into their apps.

Waze now gives you the ability to access your playlists and songs without switching apps, Spotify playlists are accessible via a single tap. However the post does mention that whilst Waze is running and the car is moving this feature will not be available. The Waze blog goes on to explain in collaboration with Spotify how the two apps interact with each other. Waze has a button you can tap on and Spotify has a notification type box on top of the screen showing your next directions.

Spotify has a similar blog post as well which also notes that you can not access the feature inside Waze when the vehicle is moving. One can only guess if the feature is designed to detect if you are walking/running/cycling compared to driving, or even override the block feature in Waze if you have a passenger in the car. It would be very inconvenient if tracks cannot be changed simply because you're walking down the street.

It would also be interesting to see which other partnerships come to fruition in the future. Integrating other music players would be the obvious first step, as it would allow for wider choice to the consumers. For now, the combination of Waze and Spotify is what consumers get to enjoy.

Head over to the blog post to check it out yourself.
