We've been hearing about Google's successor to their very first branded smartphone for a while now. Our sources had informed us about some of the features it would be included, and this has been corroborated by other leaks and reports as well. CAD renders of the device have been shown off and multiple live photos all but confirm what we can expect from Google later this year. Now, some additional information about hardware and a launch date of the Google Pixel 2 has been revealed.
This should still be classified as a rumor though since nothing official has been announced by Google or any of the OEMs which are involved. Still, this information comes to us from Evan Blass who has an incredible track record when it comes to these early leaks. The first bit of information we learned late last night was that the Google Pixel 2 would be equipped with an updated version of Qualcomm's high-end SoC, the Snapdragon 836.
This actually makes a lot of sense as it's something we saw happen last year with the transition from the Snapdragon 820 to the 821. It's unclear if this will be a continuous trend for Qualcomm, but it certainly seems like it could be since it's happened multiple years in a row. The second bit of information we learned from this tweet was that Google seems to have the launch event for the Pixel 2 scheduled for the 5th of October.
Again, this matches up with what we saw last year when Google unveiled the Pixel and Pixel XL at a small event on October 4th. This puts the launch event for the Pixel 2 about a month and a half away so be aware that this could change at any time. If they continue to follow last year's schedule, then pre-orders will go on sale that same day and then be made available to the public later on in October.
