Xiaomi kicked off development for the Android Oreo update coming to its flagship lineup earlier this month, and rolled out an early version of an Android Oreo-based MIUI 9 ROM to a closed group of Mi 6 users. At the time, the beta program was open to MIUI China Alpha ROM users only. But it looks like Mi 6 users on the Global branch will soon get a chance to get their hands on the Oreo update, too.
On Tuesday, Xiaomi announced in a post over at MIUI Forums that they are recruiting testers for a closed Oreo beta for the Mi 6. The beta program is open to all regions, but Xioami notes that the user must be running the latest version of MIUI Global Developer ROM.
If you are a proud owner of a Mi 6 and would like to test drive an early version of Oreo-based MIUI 9 on your device, you can apply to be a beta tester using the MIUI Forum app. To apply, open up the MIUI Global Forum app on your device and click on the "Recruitment" tab. From there, fill in the required details including region, device model, IMEI number, what times you use your device and the reason why would like to be a beta tester. After that's done, hit the submit button to send the application. Before you submit your application, though, make sure to ensure that you meet all the requirements.
Apart from the closed Oreo beta for the Mi 6, Xioami is also looking for MIUI 9 Global Beta testers for its recently-released Redmi 5A and Redmi Note 5A/Redmi Y1 Lite smartphones.
The recruitment process will run through Dec. 26 and users who are selected for the beta program will be notified via personal message (PM) on Dec. 29 with further details. Xiaomi didn't provide the exact timeline on when we should expect the final release, but given the company's track record, it's safe to assume it won't be anytime soon.
