Jide, the company behind the Android-based Remix OS, has announced their latest venture into hardware. Starting at $99 the Remix IO is designed to be a TV set-top box, console, and PC all in one device centred around the latest version of Remix OS/Android 7.0 which boasts 4K output at 60fps and HDR support.
Jide has always been community focused which is one of the reasons they house their forums here at XDA, their staff patrol the various remix sub-forums listening to feedback and offering assistance where needed. It was this relationship with their users and the feedback provided which has lead to them developing their unique TV mode interface based on the interests of the community. The ability to switch between TV and PC mode is definitely an interesting move which allows the device to run apps designed for both regular Android and Android TV and intelligently choose which to use at any given time. As you can imagine, playing games designed for a touch screen with a controller or mice and Keyboard has never been an easy feat; Remix OS allows you to map touch controls to keyboard, mouse, and game controller inputs, making the entire process simpler.
"Jide's community has been an important part of the company growth and Remix OS' development since we launched it to the world in March 2015. Their support meant that our previous Remix Mini campaign was a resounding success, and raised over US$1.6m on Kickstarter. Our new campaign is a way for us to go back to where it all started and offer our three million Remix OS users a Kickstarter exclusive on the new Remix IO"
Remix IO is available to back on Kickstarter now starting at $99 and will ship to backers worldwide in March 2017
