Xiaomi previewed MIUI 9 when they first unveiled the Mi 5X back in July of this year. The company is adding some interesting changes to its OEM ROM such as lockscreen shortcuts, split screen functionality, and a ton of system optimizations. They launched the new software update just a couple of days later and then announced the first two devices which were scheduled to receive alpha and beta builds of it. At the time, this was only for the Chinese ROM of MIUI 9, but now we have an update timeline for the MIUI Global Beta ROM.
Just like the initial software release for the Chinese ROM, Xiaomi has confirmed the Redmi Note 4 Qualcomm / Redmi Note 4X and Mi 6 will be the first batch of devices that will receive the MIUI 9 Global Beta ROM update. This update is said to roll out today, August 11th, and can be downloaded directly via an OTA update if your device is currently on the MIUI 8 Global Beta ROM. So for those who are already participating in the beta program, it will be easy to update.
If you're currently on the Global Stable ROM, then you will need to unlock the bootloader and then perform a full wipe before you fastboot the Global BETA ROM. Xiaomi is pointing people to this forum thread if you need some tutorials on how to flash your device. So with those devices being in the first batch, the company has revealed details about additional batches as well. While we don't get exact dates for when these additional batches will go out, we do get a list of devices.
The second batch of devices to receive the MIUI 9 Global Beta ROM includes the Mi MIX, Mi Note 2, Mi 5, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, Mi Max 2, Mi Max, and Redmi 4, Redmi 4X. Lastly, the third batch of devices to receive the update include the Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, Mi 3, Mi 4, Redmi Note 3 Qualcomm, Redmi Note 3 Special Edition, Redmi Note 4 MTK, Mi 4i, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note Prime, Mi 2, Mi 2S, Mi Note, Redmi 3, Remi 3 Prime, Redmi 3S, Redmi 3S Prime, and Redmi 4A.
