Huawei hasn't launched a Huawei-branded phone in India since a very long time. The Huawei P9 from 2016 and the Nexus 6P from 2015 are still the latest Huawei phones visible on the company's Indian website. Since then, Huawei has globally launched the Mate 9, P10 and P10 Plus, the Mate 10 and the Mate 10 Pro. None of these phones have been launched in India. In contrast, Honor, a subsidiary of Huawei, has launched its new flagship smartphones in India at regular intervals.
The Honor 6 in 2014 was followed by the Honor 7 in 2015, which was itself succeeded by the Honor 8 in 2016. In 2017, Honor launched the Honor 8 Pro in India, although it opted not to launch the Honor 9. In January, the company launched its latest flagship, the Honor View 10, in India for Rs. 29,999. It means that currently, Honor is the face of Huawei's smartphone brand in India. This may be about to change, though.
Huawei globally launched the Huawei P20, P20 Pro and P20 Lite on March 27. The company's Indian website then posted a teaser for the P20 Pro, saying that it was coming soon. Now, the company has started sending media invites for an event in New Delhi on April 24, where it's expected to launch the P20 Pro and the P20 Lite in India. The regular P20 is not expected to be launched in the country.
The Huawei P20 Pro is the company's most expensive smartphone yet. It has a high-end list of specifications including the HiSilicon Kirin 970 system-on-chip, 6GB of RAM paired with 128GB of storage, 6.1-inch Full HD+ (2240×1080) notched OLED display with an 18.7:9 aspect ratio, and a triple camera setup. The triple camera setup consists of a 40MP RGB camera with a 1/1.7″ sensor, an 8MP sensor with a telephoto lens for effective 3x optical zoom and 5x hybrid zoom, and a 20MP monochrome sensor. It has a 24MP front-facing camera, and is powered by a 4000mAh battery. It ships with EMUI 8.1 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo. It's sold in Europe for €899.
The P20 Lite, on other hand, is powered by the Kirin 659 SoC, the same chip which powers the Honor 7X and the Honor 9 Lite. It has 4GB of RAM paired with 64GB of storage, 5.84-inch Full HD+ (2280×1080) notched IPS display with a 19:9 aspect ratio, dual 16MP + 2MP (depth-sensing) rear cameras, 16MP front-facing camera, and a 3000mAh battery. It ships with EMUI 8.0 on top of Android 8.0 Oreo.
We expect to learn the phones' Indian pricing and launch offers at the launch.
