Changing data type Possible?

Can we change the data type of a variable of any app in rooted android.I tried to change the sxore variable of flappy bird to long but then the game doesnt open.And when I changed it back to int everythinf became fine.Wondering if we can do it without any problem and errors.I need assistance in this matter
