[Guide] Root (Optionally s-off) and Keep your radio working

Until a better solution is available, this guide will get you rooted and keep your radio working (and s-off if you wish)
It requires a sdcard for backups.

  • 0) Charge the phone to at least 75% before starting this
  • 1) Visit HTCDev.com, follow their directions to unlock your bootloader (this wipes data)
  • 2) Visit http://ift.tt/1S5NcE4, download the last TWRP version
  • 3) Reboot into download mode with "adb reboot download"
  • 3) Flash TWRP with "fastboot flash recovery twrp-file-path-here"
  • 4) Reboot into aboot "fastboot reboot-bootloader"
  • 5) Put a SDCARD into the device for backing - Mandatory
  • 5) Select recovery and reboot into recovery
  • 6) Run TWRP in read only mode, do a backup of all partitions EXCEPT for userdata. This will be a full stock backup (except recovery). Make sure you backup "System Image".
  • 7) Reboot twrp with "adb reboot recovery" (Do not run twrp in read only mode this time)
  • 8) Download SuperSu 2.71 or whatever is most current from http://ift.tt/1O0mQUi
  • 9) In TWRP select advanced, then sideload
  • 10) Sideload supersu with "adb sideload SUPERSU-FILE-PATH-HERE"

Optional )
SunShine for s-off at this point - http://theroot.ninja

Re-enabling Radio after SunShine or formatting/wipe
If data gets formatted after flashing supersu, it will no longer be encrypted, and the radio may stop working on the HTC 10
  • 11) Reflash "System Image" and "Boot" (Note that is not System but System Image)
  • 12) Allow phone to fully boot, this will take some time as it is re-encrypting itself. It will take some time
  • 13) Reboot twrp with "adb reboot recovery" (Do not run twrp in read only mode this time)
  • 14) In TWRP select advanced, then sideload
  • 15) Sideload supersu with "adb sideload SUPERSU-FILE-PATH-HERE"

Each time you format the data (until a proper fix is written), you will need to re-perform steps 11 to 15

We use "System Image", instead of "System" as it will pass dm-verity, which is nice if you want a booting phone.
