While the LG Watch Style and Watch Sport are the first to come running Android Wear 2.0 out of the box, other OEMs have also been working on releasing an updated watch hardware to take advantage of new features introduced with Google's latest Android Wear OS update. Huawei is one of relatively few OEMs who has lately been working on new smartwatch hardware with Wear 2.0 out of the box. We earlier reported that Huawei was planning to launch its next Android Wear watch at MWC, which later Huawei's CEO confirmed on his Weibo account by posting a teaser of the Huawei Watch 2.
While the official launch event is still a few days away at this point, some new images of the Watch 2 have just been leaked, giving us an early glimpse ahead of its official launch. The latest leak comes to us courtesy of Evan Blass (@evleaks) over at VentureBeat. As revealed by Mr. Blass in his blog post, the Huawei Watch 2 will come in three color options: black, orange, and speckled gray.
Clearly, we can see that Huawei is implementing a sportier design this time around, which is a marked difference compared to the original Huawei Watch. It's difficult to say whether or not people will find the design appealing until it's actually in our hands, so we'll reserve our judgement until then.
Unfortunately, the post didn't reveal other key specifications of the device, though it is said the Watch 2 will be equipped with cellular connectivity to make and receive calls directly on the watch.
Huawei has already confirmed a launch event on February 26 in Barcelona, Spain, where the company will launch its much-awaited flagship the Huawei P10 along with the new watch hardware in the form of the Huawei Watch 2. Hopefully, we'll have more details when Huawei officially launches the watch.
