The Google Home is Google's answer to the Amazon Echo series of home assistant devices. Google Home is powered by Google Assistant, which while slowly adding additional integrations over time, seems to still be lacking many basic features that one would expect. One such feature, reading your device's notifications, may be rolling out for the Google Home.
As you can see in the screenshot above, there's a new "Notifications" toggle in the Google Assistant settings page. This toggle can be found by opening the Google Home app, expanding the sidebar menu, then tapping on "more settings." Scroll down and underneath the name of your Google Home device you may see the new option there.
Notifications
Receive notifications like weather updates on this device. Even if notifications are off, you'll still hear alarms and important updates.
Judging by the wording on the toggle, this may only be for Google Now notifications, though I haven't yet received a new notification from Google to confirm. It's possible that this feature may be like the multi-user setup suggestion seen by many Google Home users a few days back in that Google accidentally pushed the message before the feature was actually live. I'll be on the lookout to see if my Google Home device suddenly starts reading my Google notifications and will update this article accordingly. If it works as stated, I really hope that the Google Home is smart enough to not read me notifications in the middle of the night!
