TWRP now available for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, Xiaomi Mi Note 2, and Sony Xperia XA2

Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP) is the most popular custom recovery for Android smartphones and tablets. It allows you to make and restore full backups, flash modifications, ROMs, kernels, etc, and much more. The recovery supports a wide range of devices and today official support is rolling out for 3 additional devices: the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, and the Sony Xperia XA2.

Except for the Xperia XA2, each of these devices already had unofficial builds of TWRP available. The Mi Note 2 has a healthy development community around it while the highly popular Redmi Note 5 Pro is also bound to have a lot of custom development for it. (This is especially true as the official Android 8.1 Oreo update for the Redmi Note 5 Pro will bring Project Treble compatibility, allowing for the device to flash a Generic System Image build of custom ROMs like LineageOS 15.1 or Resurrection Remix.) As for the Xperia XA2, Sony's commitment to open source projects with their Open Devices Program means that developers will have a lot of support from Sony for building AOSP for the device.

Now that official support for TWRP is available on each of these devices, you can expect to see continued support for the custom recovery as newer releases of Android may mandate. Be sure to install the recovery if you ever plan on flashing a custom ROM, kernel, or any other modification because it's the easier way out of a pickle if you bother to make backups!
