YouTube Music and YouTube Premium were announced early last month. YouTube Music is a merger of YouTube Music and Google Play Music, while YouTube Premium is replacing YouTube Red. YouTube Music and YouTube Premium are now available in 17 new countries as of today. Both services are now available for everyone in the US, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and South Korea. Not only that, but 12 new countries have been added with its launch, including Austria, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. The first great thing about this launch is not the huge music library that's now available in these 17 countries (though that's pretty great). Fans of YouTube will rejoice as you can finally get background playback and Picture-in-Picture mode without needing to use third-party solutions. Having said that, YouTube Music includes pretty much all music on YouTube, not just music videos. There's a huge amount of music available and curated playlists, among other things in terms of features that it has over competitors. You'll also get ad-free listening, meaning you also don't need to feel guilty anymore if you're blocking advertisements.
And if that's not enough, there's even better news. YouTube Red and Google Play Music members (including family plans) in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico will automatically receive access to YouTube Premium at their current price. Google Play Music subscribers in all other countries will automatically receive access to YouTube Music Premium at their current price as it becomes available there as well. Nothing will change with Google Play Music, so users can continue to use that instead if they want.
